"Shennong Street," used to be called "Peishih Street." It is the best preserved old street in Tainan. Also, it is the most important site of "Old Five Channels Cultural Zone". "Old Five Channels" in the early Qing was the main gateway harbor toward outside, and Shennong Street was right in the middle of the port area, which made it the most lively street during the time. "Shennong Street" street has width of about four meters. Because the old houses on the street are mostly complex land property, renovation is not easy to launch. Many old houses still retain the appearance and structure as in the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Japanese occupation. The different styles of the old house witness the historical development of "Old Five Channels" port area.
